Region and Country of Origin::
Height:
They have been around since 2004, and but in reality are ghosts of the 80's Thrash heyday.
Weight:
The band has previously released a split CD with Scarecrow, as well as their cult 2006 debut "Wounded." Ryan Butler previously spent time in the notorious North Side Kings.
Significant Findings:
So by now, everyone knows there is a huge thrash revival happening in music. A lot of bands pay homage to the style without fully understanding it in depth. One can hear a lot of bands these days, and dismiss they as merely 2009 versions of their 80s predecessors. When I pressed play on Landmine Marathon's "Rusted Eyes Awake," it was like someone had found a lost demo or album from 1985. It was the album that fit perfectly between "At War With Satan" and "Hell Awaits." Or, for that matter, alongside bands like Destruction and Celtic Frost. People who borrow elements of thrash do not develop their own style, tending instead to just mimic it. Landmine Marathon takes the style and drops its own self-styled thrash bomb, and it simply fucking kills. A lot of these thrash revival bands are fun to listen to, but I always end up saying, "I think I will go and listen to the original." Landmine Marathon makes me want to listen to Landmine Marathon, and the feelings it evokes in me are the same as those I felt when I first heard Exodus, Venom, Exciter, and Razor, who took and pushed music to a new level of metal when the genre was fresh three decades ago.
Possible Diagnosis:
It would be lame to lump this band in with being part of the revival, since Landmine Marathon are a great band in their own right. They have elements of old thrash from the 80s, and also newer elements of such greats as Book of Black Earth (with whom they are currently on tour) and Withered, who also happen to be Prosthetic artists. Whether you like old or newer metal, this is a solid release and just great music all around. When you listen to "Rusted Eyes Awake" you will hear elements of everything that made this genre amazing.
