Black Label Society: Berzerkus Tour - Montreal
For me the best concert of 2010 was the Heavy MTL weekend second place was Thursday night’s Children of Bodom and Black Label Society show. Up first were California’s own 2Cents on tour promoting their “Dressed To Kill†album after seeing them perform I can say they’re known for two things. #1 putting on a good live show and #2 delivering interesting rants! Like front-man Adam O’Rourke’s inspirational anti-Emo tirade or his rousing lecture on the importance of supporting good music. No use trying to quote O’Rourke’s rants you had to be there to fully appreciate his sermon and to sing along to their catchy tune “Get Fuckedâ€
I spotted a young lady so overtaken by Clutch’s sound she was dancing up a tempestuous sexy storm.
Clutch took the stage next I’m going to admit total shameful ignorance on this band. I’ve been aware of Clutch since my teen years and only heard them for the first time on Thursday I’m a Clutch later bloomer. But wow was I ever impressed with them I’m a fool for only letting my ears indulge in Clutch now. Guitarist Tim Sult I was in awe of your fine guitar play good sir! I wasn’t the only one in awe I spotted a young lady so overtaken by Clutch’s sound she was dancing up a tempestuous sexy storm. Garnering the attention of all males in the vicinity of her primal libidinous gyrations, thank you for enhancing the Clutch experience for me you awesome sexy girl! With 9 albums under their belt I’m looking forward to exploring Clutch’s dazzling career via iTunes and I will see them live next time they pass through Montreal.
God damn the place went ape shit
The crowd responded well to the first two acts but God damn the place went ape shit crazy for Children of Bodom. To quote Led Zeppelin “we come from the land of ice and snow†Children of Bodom may be from Finland but they were adopted by Montreal on Thursday night, welcome home C.O.B! Children of Bodom were another band on this concert bill with an exceptionally talented guitarist, it was a running theme from the evening! Vocalist/guitarist Alexi Laiho who was voted “World’s Best Guitarist†by Metal Hammer magazine showed off his skills Thursday night to a wildly energetic and aggressive crowd. Great live music plus it being thirsty Thursday gave the crowd the added boost to go wild. They opened their set with “Silent Night, Bodom Night†from their second album “Hatebreeder†after that it was “Hate Me!†from my favorite Bodom album “Follow The Reaper†other songs of note from their set were In Your Face, Angels Don’t Kill and Downfall.
it was one of those awesome concert lighter moments.
After Children of Bodom’s energetic set the rabid crowd was still pumped up for even more metal! An instrumental version of “O Canada†played as the metal-heads eagerly awaited the stage appearance of Black Label Society. As “O Canada†ended, the humongous stage covering Black Label Society banner fell to the floor and they launched into their show opening song “The Beginning…At Last†Zakk Wylde was in fine form Black Label Society ruled the stage they took all in attendance on a blessed hellride! The most memorable moment of the night for me came when a piano was wheeled onto stage and they played “In This River†from their 2005 “Mafia†album. The song is a touching tribute to the late & fucking great Dimebag Darrell it was one of those awesome concert lighter moments. I was also happy they played “Crazy Horse†off the new album “Order of The Black†a song about the badass mother-fucker Lakota warrior Crazy Horse not the malt liquor with the same name. As I mentioned earlier the running theme for the night was exceptionally talented guitarist showing off their mind-blowing talents and Zakk Wylde stole the show with his epically long guitar solo I fucking love that shit! It was a very enjoyable evening my hearing took a beating being so close to the speakers but it was totally worth it heavy metal shows are the best you get your money’s worth every fucking time.
Fuck mainstream music, fuck it in the ass!
