Back in January, Michael Gira announced that he would reform Swans, the pioneering New York postpunk/industrial band he led from the early 80s until their 1997 breakup. The newly reconstituted Swans are at work on a new album, which Gira is currently mixing. And now, he's announced the first round of dates for the new Swans. In September and October, the new-look Swans (which feature two original members, two later-period members, and two new guys) will hit a few North American venues, including a stop at Montreal's Pop Montreal festival, and the Supersonic Festival in Birmingham, England. A post on Gira's Young God Records website promises that at the Supersonic show, "an assortment of dancing geeks, angry children, and fulminating politicians will adorn the stage...." Further information about Michael Gira's limited solo + guests CD/DVD of new material, which quickly sold out earlier this year, as well as the current Swans roster, is available on Swans' Myspace page and the Young God Records website.
