In their 10 year existence they demolished the fakes and plowed a path for many to follow.

In 1998 Texas had no hardcore band to call its own. Sure there were hardcore bands, there was a hardcore scene, there were people doing work and making things happen, but it didn’t all come together until Will To Live stepped up to the plate to show how it’s really done. We finally had a flag bearer; a real hardcore band that sang about real life and brought us all together in a massive pile of sing alongs and breakdown fury. We were proud to be from Texas and we finally had a band to carry our voice.

Firstly I'd like to know how is the tour treating you‭?

Henry Rollins:‭ ‬The tour starts tomorrow night.

Where are you most looking forward to going‭?

HR:‭ ‬I don't look forward to any one place more than another really,‭ ‬I am happy to be touring pretty much anywhere.‭ ‬I really like being in the world.

How does it differ for you getting ready for a night of spoken word compared to a night with the band‭?

-Candiria have never been strangers to experimentation. For the better half of the band’s existence, you both positioned yourselves and were marketed as an experimental, crossover metal/hardcore unit. If you hadn’t already made the point clear with “What Doesn’t Kill You” and “Kiss The Lie,” self-reinvention seems to be the only way Candiria has chosen to survive over the years.

HOW DID YOU GET INVOLVED WITH FUCKED UP?

-You guys are quite the hardcore supergroup. But before we get to the meat, let us know what each of the members do for a living or on a regular basis that would be worthwhile noting.

Matty (drums) - I work at a restaurant, give drum lessons, pretty much play music all the time. I also started working for my endorsee, Masters of Maple Drums, building and selling kits. I play for Mikoto and Mean Season as well.

Joey (bass) - I go to school full-time and work for a lighting company.

This recently unearthed Life of Agony interview from 2005 was conducted during an exciting time for the band; they were riding high on the renewed-interest in “River Runs Red”, and they were just about to drop their Epic debut, “Broken Valley”, a record they all felt would kickstart their largely stalled careers.

Of course, things didn’t really work out that way; the record flopped, and apart from an opening slot on a Megadeth tour later that year, no one really paid attention to the “relaunched” LOA.

-Considering how busy Chris Beattie probably is with Hatebreed, and the rest of you guys with your own projects and day jobs, how did Blackened come together so quickly?

- I’m trying to route misogyny and concern about women and their destruction, so to speak, in Hardcore from 1999 on. I chose 1999 because I think that Poison The Well was the first most modern example of saying that women were OK to sing about while still being a legit Hardcore band. I also talk about Glassjaw and Eighteen Visions and Scarlet, and some throwaway songs like Maudlin by A Life Once Lost, etc. But you guys, well, you writing the lyrics, do it in a way that’s much more violent.

Here is an interview with No Warning from a couple of years back, while they were on tour with Sum 41. There is nothing all that revelatory in here, but it gives you a good idea of where their heads were at when their controversial "Suffer Survive" LP was released.



On the Project Revolution tour:

-How is life for you guys these days?

Pretty good,we're working hard on the new album right now. It's pretty much finished and we're really excited by the new material. Studio is set for this summer. We're also getting ready for a month long tour with Beneath The Massacre, Carnifex & Blind Witness. Looking forward to hitting the road this weekend.



-Are you surprised at the hugely positive reaction to Aeon of Suffering?

Doing good, how are you doing man?

Pretty good.

You were tattooing today?

Yeah, I had appointments so I was running a little behind schedule.

That's alright brother. So we talked about doing this interview last summer and finally, here it is.

True enough.

First of all, I wanted to say that the new album is fucking awesome.

Thanks very much.

I'm shocked and pleased that you actually have a new album out altogether.

(laughs) Shocked, huh?

Well, it seems like every album from one of the good old bands like Ringworm is kind of painstaking to get together, to get out, to get promoted.

That's true, yeah.

Your band is on the road pretty much constantly, but describe for us life in San Diego when you're home.

In 2008 we played just over 280 shows in about 20 countries. Being that busy gets fairly tiring and so the days off we did have we just decompressed. We’re lucky enough to live just a few min from the beach so I try to spend as much time there as I can. Thankfully it’s still warm enough in the winter to get some beach time in.

-Charles Johnson. The one and only. How difficult is it, you know, being you?

It’s a disgusting party filled with confusion, violence, and turmoil with Necroticism: Descanting the Insalubrious blaring at full volume at all times.

-What kind of things have you been up to recently?

Personally, I’ve been working 48+ hrs a week as a vet tech and trying to relax on my days off, especially after the holidays and about 8 birthdays (including my own). Bishop-wise, we've been playing random shows and practicing with our fill-in drummer for our Europe tour. We just did a show in Costa Rica with Billy The Kid. Fuck yeah.

-What factors have led to Mushmouth/Out To Win reuniting in January of 2009?

Well we really never broke up, we just sorta stopped playing. We did the "last show" thing a few years back, we played with Earth Crisis in Baltimore, and there we said that we would pop up here and there.

For the show on the 10th however, it's a date where we have a get together with the crew.

-Let’s get this one out of the way. How did you get started into hardcore, metal, crossover, thrash, etc? Your influences are plain to see, but perhaps they differ from how you got into the styles. Don’t be afraid to say something like Limp Bizkit, we won’t judge. Each member can provide his own answer, or the band can answer collectively.

Alex: Just from kids I skated with I guess... Rancid, Misfits, Slayer, etc.

Ethan: From hanging out with my older sister and her friends, they were into bands like Sick Of It All and I just started going to shows with them.

-Eli, tell me about life these days in Rockaway, NJ. How do you spend your days? Do you enjoy your life?

The Slumlords bring to the table a sound reminiscent of 80's hardcore like Black Flag, Agnostic Front, Negative Approach, and oversea legends like 4 Skins, UK Subs, The Business, and Blitz among others. Discuss what influence those street level and working class bands had on you guys growing up and now. -2004

Scotty P - All the influence in the world, that's my favorite shit. I wouldn't know where to start… I love those bands!

The Promise just got back from a tour with Throwdown, Most Precious Blood and Sworn Enemy. Tell me about it. How was the crowd response in general, and more specifically, towards the newer "Believer" material? Did you notice many people from the old days or mostly new faces? And how was Hellfest for you guys?

It's very unusual that a band from the old school of NYHC is still around, nevermind being more relevant than ever musically and politically as is the case with Subzero. This interview was conducted in October 2003 between Michael Gluck (QCHC.com) and Lu (Subzero frontman) in light of their "Necropolis, City Of The Damned" album that was released on Stillborn Records in late 2003 (vinyl version on Stab & Kill Records).

So if you have a new album coming out shortly entitled "Dedicated to Babies Who Came Feet First." How do you feel it differs from your earlier work, why did you choose the title and what track are you most proud off from it?

Give me the lowdown on PCDS, who all is involved, when/where you started and what member is most likely to loosen or eliminate the Japanese stranglehold on competitive hot dog consumption?

PCDS is a Thrash Entertainment Juggernaut comprised of myself JLJ on Vocals, Jonny Nevada on drums, Danno Thrashteenez, Thrash Legend Anthony Guzman on guitar and Jesse Skelarot Jensen busting sick leads and providing the talent portion of
our band.

I echo the sentiments of many when saying that Dead Hearts are one of the most passionate, true hardcore bands to have emerged since some of the genre leaders. I think of top-quality acts like Ignite and Sick Of It All when you guys are mentioned. Do you feel Dead Hearts has been given its due credit with regards to the effort you have put in?

-With legendary releases by Vegan Reich, Stretch Armstrong, Racetraitor, 7 Angels 7 Plagues, Fall Out Boy, Rogue Nation, and more, Uprising Records is one of the most influential hardcore labels of the last 20 years. How did Liferuiner's relationship with Uprising come about? How has the experience been for you guys thus far?

-I heard you opened a hardcore store, is this true? On that note, with downloading and webstores providing most of what kids need these days in the way of hardcore merchandise, how do you survive? What is the climate like for a retail store in 2008? How do you stay above water and on top of things?
